PS3 Media Server is easily the better choice. Throught the Media Server you can also watch MKV files. I have 3 PS3s in house, 2 are the slim models, and 1 is the old one. I stream from a Mac Mini using the PS3 Media Server, and have done so flawlessly for well over a year. If you have strong enough internet at home that is a great way to watch movies on your ps3. Ive got a similar problem on my PS3 since the 3.6 update. This software if instaled on your computer can stream video, image files and audio files directly from your computer to your ps3. That's one of the posts I came acrossed that looked to offer some help but really didn't at all. You should also check out the PS3 Media Server option. Only a moron installs a codec pack to get FFDShow (obviously you already have FFDShow installed, but others reading this may not). Ignore discussions of codec packs and install FFDShow on it's own. This post form the PMS forum covers to a dgree what you are after, I suspect : - you cannot use FFDShow directly, but you can in combination with Avisynth through PMS. PS3 media server Ive done all of the above and yet the transcoded Mpeg 2 file still says its corrupted. When you will check directory \BDMV\STREAM\ of your Blu-ray, you will find m2ts files there which are natively played by PS3. most of these can be answered on the official ps3 media server forums 2. What are your issues with the current offerings ? They are probably the best of what is out there. H264 or VC-1 (rarely MPEG2) video codec but DVD-Video uses MPEG2.
